Trevor Renals has over 20 years’ experience in Japanese knotweed management. He instigated the Cornwall Knotweed Forum in 1997, which became a precursor to the wide variety of Local Action Groups currently engaged in invasive species management. He wrote the Environment Agency Japanese knotweed code of practice and the current regulatory position statement on invasive plant management and disposal.

He is a member of the GB Biological Control Steering Group as well as a variety of other national working groups concerned with invasive species management and biosecurity. He is currently the senior national technical advisor on invasive species for the Environment Agency. His role covers a broad range of invasive non-native plants and animals associated with aquatic and riparian freshwater and marine habitats.
