Groundwater remediation: real-time monitoring of oxidizing reagent depletion

This case history demonstrates how real-time high-resolution monitoring of groundwater quality improved the management and control of a chlorinated solvent remediation programme deploying oxidizing reagents. Changes in TDS, pH, DO and ORP in a 6-month period following injection provided evidence of: (1) the immediate impact on groundwater quality; (2) the time when the oxidising agent was spent; and (3) the trend in water quality as it reverted to pre-injection conditions.
